E-Invoicing in Belgium: ready for Peppol in 2026?

Only 8 months left: From 2026, Peppol e-invoicing is mandatory for B2B in Belgium. Act now to stay compliant and avoid penalties.

Mandate means change: the concrete impact

Traditional PDF or paper invoices will no longer be accepted for domestic B2B transactions in Belgium. Instead, companies must use structured electronic invoices that comply with the European standard EN 16931. Belgium has chosen Peppol as the standard network for invoice exchange. There are limited exceptions, such as B2C transactions or invoices under €250, but this marks a significant operational shift for most businesses.

With only eight months to go, the clock is ticking. Switching to mandatory e-Invoicing is more than a technical upgrade. It affects your internal processes, software landscape, suppliers, and customers. Preparing now helps avoid last-minute compliance risks and potential penalties.

Peppol: the backbone of compliance

Peppol is an international network for secure and standardized e-Invoicing. It enables the exchange of invoices via Access Points and ensures interoperability across systems, both in the public and private sector, and across borders. As of 2026, Peppol will be the required standard for all B2B e-Invoicing in Belgium, meaning companies should now be planning for:

  • Creating and sending invoices in structured formats (e.g., Peppol BIS 3.0 XML)
  • Connecting to the Peppol network via an accredited Access Point
  • Adapting ERP or accounting systems accordingly

One platform, full compliance

Routty, a Dynatos platform, supports companies in transitioning to Peppol e-Invoicing and ensures full compliance with Belgian regulations. With flexible integrations and automated workflows, Routty provides an end-to-end solution to:
