Another step towards a full B2G e-invoicing mandate in New Zealand

The New Zealand government keeps reinforcing its stance by requiring large suppliers to send e-invoices to public entities.

New Zealand’s B2G e-invoicing obligations were already set to expand from January 1, 2026, with a new wave of public administrations required to receive electronic invoices and accelerate supplier payments.

Building on this, the next phase will impact large suppliers with annual revenue exceeding NZD 33 million (~16 M€), who will be required to send e-invoices to New Zealand public entities starting January 1, 2027, as shared in a recent official announcement.

This move marks another step by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) toward a comprehensive B2G e-invoicing mandate. While no formal announcement has been made, those recent developments make it reasonable to expect that the scope may gradually extend to smaller businesses in the future.

Webinars for large businesses

To support large suppliers in this new obligation, MBIE is hosting a webinar titled “Transition to eInvoicing: Preparing large suppliers for government requirements” will be held on November 19, 2025.

The session will provide guidance on compliance and the upcoming obligations, and registrations are already open.
